Laura Driver is currently a Sergeant with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina, where she administers the Project Lifesaver program. She began her law enforcement career in 1995 as a Patrol Officer with the North Carolina State Capitol Police. In 1996, Laura moved to the Knightdale Police Department, where she worked in Patrol for one year before advancing to the Crime Prevention Unit. In this role, she taught the D.A.R.E. program to all fifth-grade students and administered Community Watch and Community Policing programs, which included home and business safety assessments.

In mid-2000, after the birth of her son, Laura chose to remain at home with him until 2004. During this time, she continued to serve her community as an Auxiliary Police Officer with the North Carolina State Capitol Police. In 2004, she returned to full-time law enforcement and joined the Wake County Sheriff’s Office. For her first two years, she was assigned to Courthouse Operations before advancing to a unique position overseeing the Citizens Well Check Program, Project Lifesaver, Fleet Management, and Evidence.

In 2008, Laura received the Z Award for outstanding service and commitment to the community. In 2022, she was promoted to Sergeant and currently administers Project Lifesaver and Fleet Management.

Laura’s greatest pride and joy is her 25-year-old son, who has been diagnosed with profound autism, global brain loss, epilepsy, and multiple comorbidities. Her dedication to creating the best possible quality of life for him has strengthened her compassion and understanding for caregivers and individuals with special needs within the community. Laura is currently working to implement communication boards and sensory toolboxes for Sheriff’s Office personnel who respond to individuals in need.
